Data science leader and economist Ethan Yeh will become an advisor to Pinwheel, helping to further guide and shape the company’s data science strategy.
Ethan previously served as Head of Data Science for Stripe, where he grew the data team from 3 to 100 and was responsible for overseeing experimentation, analytics, machine learning, and data engineering. Alongside the engineering team, Ethan helped launch several machine learning-driven products including Stripe’s Adaptive Acceptance product, and the credit underwriting and loss forecasting models that underpinned the Stripe Capital product. Prior to joining Stripe, Ethan led data science teams at Twitter across user growth and revenue and also worked on global health and HIV at the World Bank. Ethan has a PhD in Economics from the University of California at Berkeley and is currently an angel investor and adjunct professor at Rice University.
“As we continue to grow our team and product offerings, Ethan will be an immensely valuable resource for the Pinwheel team,” said Kurtis Lin, co-founder and CEO of Pinwheel.
“It’s not just Ethan’s professional accomplishments that are admirable, but also his leadership style, shared values, and ability to look at the financial services ‘big picture’ through the dual lenses of economics and data science. Ethan has a track record of fostering a ‘science-driven’ culture, leveraging data, analytics, and experimentation to uncover why things happen, which has led to some of the fintech industry’s greatest product innovations. At Pinwheel, we pride ourselves on taking income data a step further by applying robust analytics and intelligence to help customers make sense of the data. Ethan’s experience and perspective will help us expand these capabilities, up-leveling and refining our platform and products to support our mission of creating a fairer financial system.”
“Leveraging data to accelerate financial equity has been a central objective throughout my career,” said Yeh. “In grad school, I researched income volatility in Western Kenya, and it was eye-opening to see the hardships faced by people who couldn't participate in the financial system. Now, after spending many years heading up data science at Stripe, I’m excited to combine my unique experiences and background to help shape Pinwheel’s data science strategy and support its mission. There are so many exciting ways in which data and machine learning will power the next great wave of fintech innovation, and I believe Pinwheel will be central to these developments.”
The Pinwheel team is excited to benefit from Ethan’s counsel to further cultivate the company’s market-leading data-driven solutions and help create a fairer financial system.
