Today we’re excited to share that John Whitfield is joining Pinwheel as our first VP of Engineering. John will oversee our technical team, which currently represents the largest department at Pinwheel and is on track to grow by 50% by the end of the year. He has deep and varied expertise in building complex financial services products. We knew upon meeting John that he would be the best possible person to help us develop our world-class product and reach our next phase of growth.
Most recently, John joins us from Summer, where he led engineering and built products focused on student loan repayment. Prior to that, he built and led the New York engineering team at Plaid, which now encompasses a team of more than 35 people. He joined Plaid through the company’s acquisition of the successful financial connectivity platform Quovo, where he was the VP of Engineering and more than doubled the team at Quovo leading up to the business’ acquisition.
“Just as Plaid can power endless apps and products - including some that don’t even exist yet - Pinwheel does the same, making it an exciting and massive opportunity. Pinwheel gives companies the tools they need to completely transform their customer experience and supercharge their growth,” said John Whitfield, VP of Engineering, Pinwheel. “I’m thrilled to be leading this already incredible technical team, and helping Pinwheel further develop its revolutionary offering that will change how we think about everyday things like direct deposits, loans, credit checks and more.”
Our mission at Pinwheel is to create a better and fairer financial system by unlocking access to payroll data, but we’re just at the beginning of this ambitious mission. We recently announced $20 million in Series A funding to help us further progress, and have doubled our team in the last six months with plans to grow further this year. Check out our open roles if you’re interested in joining us, and building the next era of fintech.
